So since we're on lockdown in the U.S and most of the world, I wanted to revisit a show this week for Revisited since most people will be binge watching during this apocalyptic quarantine. Since I have a lot of time on our hands, why not go back in time and relive my childhood memories and discuss one of my all time favorite show that doesn't really get talked about as much, Community. There's been a lot of love for The Office and Parks and Recreation but not many people that I've talked to have watched Community or even heard of it in the first place. I discovered the show accidentally which is how most great things are found to be honest with. Whether it be love, your wallet, or a great show for instance, most of time, the great things finds you than the other way around.
Alright, lets get back on track shall we? When I was in middle school I stumbled upon the show The Office and loved it's humor. My family thought it was stupid and had weird jokes and characters but for me it was gold. Weeks passed and I would always wait for 7 o'clock to come and watch the new episode of The Office. One day, I came home early and decided to watch the channel The Office gave and see what was one. This is where I stumbled upon Community and decided to give it a try. I fell in love instantly with it and it's cast as well as its well thought out episodes and really drove in to me in a mental level.
It led me to watch the whole sleet of scheduled shows that night which included Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, The Office and of course Community. It was and still is the best television lineup of comedy shows of all time that I've came across in my opinion. From then on I was always there, Thursday nights, ready to watch 4 hours worth of comedy gold. The Office and Parks and Recreation were very similar shows and 30 Rock was kind of your run of the mill comedy show but it was still great regardless but for some reason I felt Community stood out from the rest of them.
I don't know why I felt it and none of my friends agreed with me as well as the viewership as the show got cancelled and than renewed and than ended. It's now developed a cult following since than but still seems to ride on the coat tails of more popular shows even though it deserves to be up there along with them. It had a stellar cast that has now gone to do great things like Donald Glover's rise of Childish Gambino or Alison Brie's have her chance in the spotlight with a slew of hit shows. It's comedy felt refreshing and the writing was genius, in my opinion, in it's way to tell a story and deliver it's message to the audience. The first seasons are a gold mine and you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't go binge watch the series with all this free time on your hands. This series deserves to be revitalized into a new generation of viewers and a movie #sixseasonsandamovie. This has been Revisited, thanks for reading. Ricardo signing off
