2020 was never a kind year from the get go, however through the year there were blips of hope and a sense of better things to come, however recently there has been blips of sorrows and times of mourning. We have lost two legends of late, one who graced the screen as the legendary 007 and the other who graced the soccer pitch like no other human being and I do mean no other human being. I may be of the new thread of a younger generation of soccer fans but before you even learn of soccer, the first player you hear of who wowed people with not only his skill but just how natural he was with the ball on his feet was Diego Maradona. Diego Maradona was many things with his life being one of the same ilk of a rollercoaster ride but above all us, he was human but on the soccer pitch he was a god of soccer. No one could take that away from him and now with him gone, soccer as well as the world seems a bit more emptier.
Soccer and Maradona was like how Micheal Jordan was to Basketball or Micheal Schumacher to Formula One. They were gods of there sports, people who could do things that can't be taught, and people who didn't need numbers or bar graphs to prove their greatness, you just saw it with your own eyes and if you were one of the lucky few who did in person than you can count yourself of the few who saw greatness. Of course even though the world is emptier without him, he has left a legacy that not only inspired others to follow in his footsteps on the soccer pitch but also grew the game and showed it isn't about money or fame but for the love the game. The same love you had when you first touched the ball, the same love when you dribbled past a defender, and the same love when you scored when your team needed it most. Everyone wanted to be Maradona and still do. The world may not be the same without him but all we can do now is appreciate the legacy he left behind. Adios Diego and thank you for everything you have given for the sport and now rest in peace and love and go out and light up pitch built in the sky as you did here so many times over.
